FAQ | Zero Masking Mentors

Frequently Asked Questions

We understand that navigating new communities can be overwhelming. We've gathered answers to the questions we hear most often to help you feel comfortable joining us.

General & Costs

Is there a cost to attend?

No. To remove all financial barriers, all 2026 programming is free for participants. We are currently founder-funded by our leadership team.

Who is eligible to join?

Zero Masking Mentors is specifically for Queer and Neurodivergent adults (18+). We center the needs of those looking for a space to exist authentically without the pressure to perform social "normalcy."

Can allies or family members attend?

To maintain the integrity of our "For Us, By Us" mission, our events are strictly reserved for members of the Queer and Neurodivergent community. We prioritize creating a safe, unmasked sanctuary where our community can connect without the neurotypical or cis-hetero gaze.

Identity & Terminology

What does "Neurodivergent" mean?

Neurodivergent is an umbrella term for people whose brains process, learn, and behave differently than what is considered "typical." At ZMM, we view neurodivergence not as a "disorder" to be fixed, but as a natural and valuable part of human diversity.

What makes a space "Vetted" by ZMM?

A vetted space has been audited for low traffic, no harsh lighting, and no constant background music. These locations must have an easy exit to step out if needed, offer gender-inclusive bathrooms, and be confirmed as sensory-friendly and LGBTQIA+ welcoming.

Attendance & Diagnosis

Do I need a formal diagnosis?

Absolutely not. We believe self-diagnosis is valid. Whether you are formally diagnosed, self-diagnosed, or currently exploring your identity, you belong here.

Can I come and go as I please?

Yes. Especially for our Talk About It Tuesday Peer Support Group, you are welcome to join late or leave early. We prioritize your energy levels over rigid schedules.

Virtual & Technical

Do I have to use my camera or microphone?

No. Cameras and microphones are always optional. You are welcome to participate via chat or simply listen in.
